Doing what I love — writing — did not, in any way, wear me down. I did this for decades in the Philippines, writing romance novels for the most part, and editing local books and a magazine.

At the tail end of the above, and after a couple of years writing and editing various reading materials for secondary students, I reinvented myself. I landed a corporate job based outside my home country.

I started as editor but very quickly moved up the ranks. Like a flash. It was not a publication of sorts. On the contrary. The “products” are not for public consumption.

But don’t let me get into the details.

I loved the job, or perhaps the job loved me.

My penchant for learning new things everyday satisfied me to the hilt, sometimes more than that. The hours were long. The locations were, well, varied.

I worked from home majority of the time. But I could also be working in transit lounges of airports, for hours, waiting for my connecting flight.

Or, if in Manila and the Internet was on the blink, I lugged my laptop and various notes and worked at Starbucks.
