While making coffee and tea in the kitchen, I overheard this conversation in the living room:
Proud dad to Grandpa: We’re very pleased when she (Scholar) received a letter confirming her acceptance and place at this world-famous university.
Proud mom to Grandpa: It was a great day, that!
Proud grandpa to Scholar: Congratulations! What a feat!
Scholar: Thank you, grandpa.
Proud grandpa to Scholar: Are you on Facebook? I’d like to follow your posts on social media, see how you’ll be getting on at uni.
Scholar: (No immediate reply, just tittered nervously)
Holding a tray with the refreshment as I entered the living room, the conversation continued.
Scholar: I’m not on Facebook, Grandpa.
(with suppressed laughter) Facebook is for old people.
(proudly) I’m on Instagram like all my friends.
